Inclusion of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles (DDGS) in Swine Rations
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction As the ethanol industry grows in Michigan and the U.S., so does the discussion about including distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in swine rations. The DDGS byproduct has the potential to be a nutritious, cost effective replacement for corn, SBM and inorganic phosphorus. Much has been written about feeding DDGS recently in popular magazines and newspapers, including information about its availability, quality, cost, effect on animal performance, and carcass quality. New research findings are needed, but take time and money to obtain. A few have been published in the past year. This Pork Quarterly article focuses on feeding DDGS to pigs. Like you, we have been working hard to keep current with all of the “feeding DDGS” exchange and thought you may appreciate us sharing what we’ve learned.

SWINE FOCUS #001 Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) in diets fed to swine
Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) is produced from the fuel ethanol industry and is available for inclusion in diets fed to swine. During recent years, several research projects have been completed to investigate the feeding value of DDGS. Crude nutrient concentrations, energy and nutrient digestibility values, and effects of including DDGS in diets fed to different categories of swi...
متن کاملProductive Performance of Laying Hens Fed Different Levels of Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles with or without Certain Feed Additives
The objective of this work was to evaluate the inclusion of distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) as substitution for soybean meal in Hisex Brown laying hen diets with or without enzyme or vitamin E supplementation on productive performance. A total number of 180 Hisex Brown laying hens at 26 weeks of age were randomly divided into 15 treatment groups in a 5 × 3 factorial design experime...
متن کاملPilot scale fiber separation from distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) using sieving and air classification.
Distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS), the coproduct of fuel ethanol production from cereal grains like corn, is mainly used as cattle feed and is used at low inclusion levels in poultry and swine diets because of high fiber content. Elusieve process, the combination of sieving and air classification (elutriation), was developed in laboratory scale to separate fiber from DDGS to result i...
متن کاملShort-term effects of lower oil dried distillers grains with solubles in laying hen rations.
Extraction of oil from dried distillers grains has become a common practice among US ethanol producers. The valuable oil has been diverted to markets other than poultry feed, leaving new dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) products higher in fiber and purportedly lower in ME. This study compared 3 DDGS products with 10.3, 7.3, or 5.2% ether extract, respectively, with a corn-soy contro...

76.5 kg BW) were used in replicated 4×4 Latin squares to investigate the effects of brown midrib (bm3) and conventional (DP) corn silages, and the inclusion of dried distillers grains plus solubles (DDGS) on milk production and N utilization. In each 28 d period cows were assigned to one of four treatments: DP plus 0% DDGS (CON); bm3 plus 0%
